SIX ARTISTS TO COMPETE LIVE IN QUICK DRAW COMPETITION "Battle for the Badami" FUNDRAISER REACHES GLOBAL AUDIENCE THROUGH EBAY AUCTION STARTING DECEMBER 3
Park City, UT " Kimball Art Center (KAC) and Canyons Resort announced today the hosts, artists, corporations and charities participating in the 2nd Annual Charity Lift. The Charity Lift project unites both artists and corporations to benefit more than 20 charities for this unique annual event. Presented by Canyons, eBay, KSL and Zions Bank, Charity Lift is on Saturday, December 10 in the Grand Summit Ballroom at Canyons from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. This evening of entertainment will feature a live quick draw art battle, live and silent auction of winter themed art, gear and experiences & a live DJ spinning all evening. Tickets are on sale for $60 and include heavy hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine and refreshment bar and complementary valet parking. The Master of Ceremonies is Mark Eaton with co-hosts, two- time Olympians Kaylin Richardson and Shannon Bahrke.
New this year is the Battle for the Badami where six artists will compete in a quick draw competition creating works for live auction. These artists have ninety minutes to produce a work of art, with party attendees selecting one artist to win an exhibition in the KAC's Badami Gallery. As soon as the time is up, each piece will be auctioned live to the highest bidder and the winner will be announced.
The silent auction portion of the evening will feature 48 items (from 13 artists and 35 corporations) highlighting works of art by local artists and corporations, ski and snowboard gear, packages and winter experiences.
Mark Eaton is a business and motivational speaker who shares with organizations and audiences nationwide how he went from a 7'4" twenty-one year old mechanic who couldn't play basketball to a twelve year career as an NBA All Star with the Utah Jazz. In Mark's high energy, action packed presentations he explains the philosophy, principles and techniques that enabled him to take it to the top, winning again and again and making history in the NBA. He reveals the secrets that skyrocketed him to fame as the Two-Time Defensive Player of the Year, enabled him to break the NBA record for the most blocked shots in a single season and be selected to play in the 1989 All-Star Game.
Two-time Olympian Shannon Bahrke represented the USA at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake (2002) and Vancouver (2010). Bahrke has 24 World Cup Top 3 finishes.
Two-time Olympian Kaylin Richardson represented the USA at the Olympic Games in Torino (2006) and Vancouver (2010). A four-time U.S. Alpine national champion, Kaylin is now retired and pursing her dream of broadcasting and producing for television.
Following the success of last year, KAC began to work with Canyons to create a winter themed event using reclaimed and repurposed ski and snowboard gear. KAC reached out to the community and began working with local artists and companies, some established, others emerging, but all with a connection in Utah. The challenge was to design a work of art using recycled ski and snowboard gear as the canvas to create a masterpiece to be auctioned off.
This year, more than 20 corporations are participating and have named over 20 charities to benefit. The artists and corporations have teamed up to create innovative, one-of-a-kind works of art to be auctioned off both on eBay.com and live at the Charity Lift event starting on December 3, 2011. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Kimball Art Center, allowing it to continue providing free exhibitions and education programs year-round. The remainder will go to the selected charities and artists.
As a presenting sponsor, eBay will hold an online auction of this art"”created by a select group of artists specifically for eBay"”starting on December 3, 2011. The seven-day auction will be listed on the eBay Giving Works website and the corporate blog, and it will run through December 10 at 9 p.m. MST. The Charity Lift auction can be found at http://ebay.com/kimballartcenter.
Since 2003, eBay has raised over $235 million in the U.S. and UK for more than 22,000 nonprofits with over 250,000 sellers participating since eBay Giving Works began. eBay Giving Works offers eBay's 89 million members a convenient and secure way to support their favorite nonprofits through the power of eBay.
"Canyons Resort is excited to build upon the tremendous success of last year's inaugural Charity Lift event with the Kimball Art Center," said Mike Goar, Managing Director of Canyons Resort. "As we speak, many prominent artists are designing, sculpting and assembling priceless pieces of art using recycled ski and snowboard equipment. We're excited to showcase them at the Grand Summit at what promises to be another memorable party. With 20 charities benefiting from the festivities, it's a win for everyone."
"Charity Lift emphasizes the importance of creative philanthropy as an outlet and the impact positive outreach can have during the Holidays. This event is the centerpiece of the intersection of creativity and corporate philanthropy. We're so pleased to be able to partner with Canyons again this year and these one of kind works of art will reach a global audience with the help of eBay," Robin Marrouche, Executive Director, Kimball Art Center.
"eBay and its employees are passionate about making a difference in our community. We are thrilled with the opportunity to help the Kimball Art Center engage individuals of all ages in diverse and inspiring experiences. We are also honored to help our selected charity, Family Promise, in its mission to assist low-income families achieve lasting independence," said Brad Hatch, Senior Communications Manager, eBay.
