Talisker on Main wins “Best Restaurant in Park City”


The smiles told the stories behind the 2013 Salt Lake Magazine Dining Awards.  We were on hand to see Executive Chef Briar Handly of Talisker on Main collect “Best Restaurant in Park City” honors for the third consecutive year and he was joined by restaurant manager Brandon Locko on the stage.  A number of Talisker staff and friends were in attendance, including Chef Zeke Wray, manager Craig Back and catering wiz Janice Fine.  Canyons bloggers Becky and Josh Rosenthal were present and positively beaming – no doubt the combination of good friends, good food and a little baby on the way!  Congrats Becky!

It was a veritable who’s-who of Utah’s food scene, with representatives of some of our favorite legendary restaurants, including “Hall of Fame” outlets Mazza, Cucina Toscana, Red Iguana and Squatters.    It was great to see the camaraderie between chefs – they’re mostly very friendly rivals – and hear the stories and witness the interactions between James Beard Award nominees (Forage) and brand-new taco joints (Taqueria 27).  Salt Lake’s dining scene has really come of age in the past decade … as Vietnamese, Indian and Thai restaurants stood equally on the podium alongside sushi houses, coffee shops and one very delectable food truck (Chow Truck).

If there was an omission in the dozens of awards, it might be that more Park City restaurants weren’t recognized.  We think there ought to be a category for Best Food Above 9,000’ (we nominate Cloud Dine) and Most Ambitious New Concept (we nominate Bistro for New Kosher Fine Dining).  Of course, there are many great restaurants on Main Street and in town (River Horse, Good Karma, El Chubasco, Red Bicycle Bread are some of our favorites) that are well worth your time and enjoyment as well.  Maybe our friends at Salt Lake Magazine need to spend more time up here!  Yes, that’s an invitation!
